Dunn is no The Count, but he still sucks

By Matt Hopkinson

Be careful what you wish for.

For a few years now, I had been itching to see Adam Dunn launching balls onto the concourse at U.S. Cellular Field.

Unfortunately, the only launching associated with Dunn is in the form of obscenities from White Sox fans.

The latest event that makes Sox fans skin crawl occurred in the third inning of Wednesday’s contest against the Anaheim Angels.

Dunn fielded a grounder, stepped on first and proceeded to the dugout. Halfway there, he realized it was only the second out. He pantomimed tossing the ball to the dugout, then walked back to first, still holding the ball.

Dunn tried to defend himself by telling reporters the ball was scuffed and he was going to get a new one.

A harmless enough play by anyone else turns into a microcosm of one of the worst individual seasons ever.

Dunn has offered no excuses for the one thing he was actually brought here to do: hit.

So why try to defend something that he has never done well?

How about actually picking up a bat in the offseason and at least attempt to ply the trade for which you are guaranteed to make $56 million, you leech.
