Kool Keith too cool for stompkee?

By DeKalb Scene Staff

Kool Keith Thornton, national headliner of Stompkee, was a no-show, festivalgoers report. The Brooklyn indie rapper was scheduled to take the hip-hop stage at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, closing the two-day festival in Stone Park, 3719 Suydam, Rd., Earlville.

But around 2 a.m. Sunday, the crown was told Keith would not be performing. When contacted, founder Jacob Miguel declined comment, mentioning the festival went smoothly aside from Kool Keith’s absence.

Thornton, who records under several doctorate-holding personas including Dr. Doom, Dr. Octagon and Dr. Octagonecologyst, is best known for his 2001 album, Spankmaster, which peaked at the 11 spot on Billboard’s Independent Albums. He more recently did “Grandma’s Boyee,” the theme song for Happy Madison’s Grandma’s Boy.

The Northern Star reported that Miguel booked Kool Keith via Twiter. It is unknown as to why the artist did not perform.
