Flu shots available in Septermber in Sycamore

By Ryan Felgenhauer

Home Bound Healthcare of Sycamore, 1625 Bethany Road in Sycamore, will offer flu shots to the public starting Sept. 1.

These shots will be available to be delivered to certain groups of people.

“We can deliver them to people over 65 with medicare and people with disabilities,” said Daniel Ortiz, marketing specialist for Home Bound Healthcare in Sycamore. “Everyone else needs to come into our office.”

The shots are available with no out-of-pocket cost for people who qualify.

Medicare will cover the expenses for those over 65, according to Home Bound Healthcare’s website.

People wishing to get immunizations without medicare will have to pay $25, said Ortiz.

Getting the immunizations is especially important for people with pre-existing health conditions.

“Elderly people, people with asthma, people with low immunity and children benefit the most from the shots,” said Kristen Fletcher, registered nurse at Home Bound Healthcare.

These are the people who are affected most severely if they catch the flu, Fletcher said.

For college students, catching the flu is a great disruption to their daily schedule.

“I felt like I had no muscles,” said senior English major Arby Famular, “I had to roll around everywhere.”

Officials at Home Bound Healthcare were unsure of the exact number of shots in the shipment, but they received a large amount and will distribute them until they run out, said Ortiz.
