Low expectations for voter turnout in aldermen elections
April 4, 2011
Students and citizens have the opportunity to have their voice heard today through local elections.
Polls in DeKalb County open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
Several positions are up for election in DeKalb and Sycamore including aldermen, park district commissioners and school board members, according to the DeKalb County website.
Sycamore Mayor Ken Mundy said half of the aldermanic positions in Sycamore are part of the election.
“I am looking forward to people expressing their preferences,” Mundy said. “Unfortunately, voter turnout has been low in recent years and is expected to be low [today], which is unfortunate.”
DeKalb County Clerk John Acardo said voters need to bring a valid identification card to the polling place.
“I encourage people to bring their voter registration card and another form of identification just in case there are questions about identity from the election judges,” Acardo said.
Acardo said results for elections will begin to be posted immediately.
“We begin posting results as soon as the polls close,” Acardo said. “The first results in are those from early voting.”
