Huskie Briefs: White earns MAC honor
April 18, 2011
After knocking in 10 runs, NIU baseball third baseman Troy White earned MAC West Player of the Week.
This is the second time White has garnered the award this season. The Chicago, Ill. native was a huge component of the Huskies’ success during their 4-1 stretch.
The junior did about all anyone could to land the weekly award. White hit .316 (6-for-19) with 10 RBI, six runs, three walks, two home runs, one double and one triple. His offensive outburst also helped him extended his hitting streak to a team and season-long 12 games.
“Troy’s a great kid who has been working really hard in this program; working hard to make himself and his teammates better,” said NIU skipper Ed Mathey in a press release. “One of the things you like about Troy is that he really is about helping the team. Helping the team win is when he as at his happiest. He’s a great leader for our program and is doing a great job. I’m very proud and happy of him.”
Golfers recognized for academic achievement
For their achievements on the golf course and classroom, both the NIU men’s and women’s golf team had respective members be named Scholar Athletes of the Week.
