Bon-Ton stores encourage customers to exchange clothing for coupons

DeKALB | Local Bon-Ton stores are encouraging people to bring in clean, gently used clothing and textiles during their semi-annual Goodwill Sale.

According to a press release issued by Bon-Ton, participating customers receive one coupon per donated item; 20 items equals 20 coupons. Coupons are good at all area Bergner’s, Carson Pirie Scott and Elder-Beerman locations. The sale will kick off today and run through March 23.

Coupons are good for 20 percent off regular or sale-price apparel, shoes, accessories and fine jewelry; 15 percent off cosmetics, fragrances, and home merchandise. Certain items including furniture, electronics, and toys can qualify for a 10 percent discount.

“[Bon-Ton] is the only department store nationwide that gives out 15 percent off cosmetics,” said Michelle Shanley, store manager of the DeKalb Carson Pirie Scott, 2550 Sycamore Road.

Customers can receive discounts on brands like Lancome, Clinique, and Estée Lauder.

“I think it’s a great opportunity; people getting a chance to clean out their closets and dressers while saving some money at the same time,” said Judy Furlong, assistant floor manager of Goodwill in DeKalb, 1037 S. Annie Glidden Road.

Items can be brought to either the DeKalb Goodwill location or any of the listed Bon-Ton stores listed.

Customers can register their donations online to receive another 25 percent off coupon to use during the sale. While on the website, customers are encouraged to play the site’s “Spin-to-Win Instant Win Game” daily to win a $100 gift card and to be automatically entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip to New York City to see “LIVE! with Regis and Kelly.”

“I definitely think it’s a positive thing,” Shanley said. “The sale not only benefits our customers, but it benefits the economy as well. People get to buy new things while getting rid of old stuff.”

Today is the only day that stores will be giving out double coupons, meaning 20 items equals 40 coupons, said Shanley.
