Get rid of your yard waste

DeKALB | Yard waste pickup will begin the first Monday of April in Dekalb and Sycamore.
The pick up service is available to anyone who uses Waste Management as their primary garbage service. There is no additional charge to the citizens said Fred Busse, director of Sycamore Public Works.
“It is all part of the contract that the city signed with Waste Management,” Busse said.
Pat Klein, representative of DeKalb Public Works department, said yard waste consists of grass clippings, weeds, flowers, leaves, twigs, and bush and tree trimmings. Prohibited materials include plastic bags and rocks.
According to the press release provided by Dekalb Public Works, all landscape waste must be placed in approved biodegradable bags, garbage cans or Waste Management provided bins, not plastic bags or boxes.
Bill Plunkett, Waste Management spokesperson, said these services will begin on April 1 and be available until November 30.
“Waste Management is in a partnership with the DeKalb, helping the community become a cleaner and more sustainable city,” Plunkett said. “The company provides waste collection and recycling services and, as part of its agreement with the city, yard waste collection. The city identified yard waste as an important service it wished to provide its residents and it included the service as a component of its contract with Waste Management.”
Waste Management provides bins for appropriate yard waste disposal which will be available April 1 at the following locations: Dresser Road Garden Plots, 950 W. Dresser Road, DeKalb Fire Station #2, 1154 S. Seventh St., and the southeast corner of Seventh Street & Oak Street.
