DeKalb | An inmate attempted to escape from Kendall County Jail Monday, according to a press release from the Kendall County Sheriff.
Ryan Cleary, 20, of Montgomery, climbed up into a portion of suspended ceiling in the jail around 9:30 a.m. He then crawled approximately 25 feet before being discovered hiding on top of the ventilation ducts by Kendall County Sheriff deputies.
According to the release, at no time did Cleary pose a threat to the public.
“Ryan Cleary was in the ceiling with no means of escape and still within the secure detention facility,” said Corrections Commander Sabrina Jennings.
Cleary was charged with attempted escape, a class-two felony, and criminal damage to state supported property, a class-four felony. His previous charges include aggravated battery, resisting arrest and a warrant. A court date has been scheduled for Feb. 9.
