The 83rd Annual Academy Awards are this Sunday. The DeKalb Scene staff is used to giving you its take on local entertainment, but here are some of our writers’ predictions and hopes for how things go down on Hollywood’s biggest night.

I have invested a lot of emotional stock in the concept and characters of Chris Nolan’s “Inception.” I’d like to see it win for score, screenplay and visual effects, but I’ve already accepted the fact that all the buzz around “The Social Network” and “The King’s Speech” will prevent it from winning best picture.

“The only category I’m really invested in is best documentary. Not only does “Exit Through The Gift Shop” deserve to win, it’s also much better than some of the best picture nominees (“Toy Story 3,” especially). Plus, if he wins, will the secret identity of street artist Banksy finally be revealed?

I would really like to see British graffiti artist Banksy win best documentary for his infamous “Exit Through the Gift Shop.” Mostly because it was an audacious flick, but also because I’d like to see the Academy award a man in a monkey mask.

While ‘The King’s Speech’ is the classic archetype of an Oscar winner, I think ‘The Social Network’ is going to take best picture. It’s fresh and innovative without being over the top, and that is going to make the difference.
