DeKalb — A

damaged cable at a Carroll Avenue substation caused a power outage

to Davis, Faraday, LaTourette and Swen Parson halls Monday,

disrupting some afternoon final exams, the NIU website stated.

Campus-wide

Internet and computer network outages resulted as well. Internet

users still were unable to access NIU sites by 5 p.m. Some

on-campus users who were logged into the network before the outage

were still able to use the Internet. Access to the NIU website was

sporadic.

Electricians

restored power to all buildings by 4:15 p.m., the website stated.

Some of the impacted 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. exams have been rescheduled

to Friday at the same times and in the same rooms.

Students should

assume their finals are on unless notified otherwise. Students with

questions about the status of their exams are encouraged to contact

their instructors or their college/department offices.

Internet service

had not been restored by 5 p.m., and reports indicated it might be

out several more hours.

A maintenance

worker arriving at Swen Parson Hall about 4:30 p.m. said extra help

was being enlisted to work on the outage, but he could not provide

further information.
