A Rochelle man died after getting hit by a car Wednesday night.
At 6:11 p.m. Wednesday, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Police were called to investigate two accidents on the intersection of Peace and Freed Road.
According to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office press release, the first accident occurred when Jessica Ward, 31, of Sycamore, collided with Robert Winton, 53, of Rochelle.
After the collision, both drivers pulled over to the shoulder of Peace Road. Winton then exited his vehicle and walked across Peace Road toward Ward while on his cell phone, according to the release. While crossing the road, Winton was struck by Kent Blaum, of DeKalb, who was traveling southbound.
Gary Dumdie, DeKalb County Chief Deputy, said alcohol did not play a role in either of the accidents.
Winton was airlifted to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford where he died. Ward was not injured and was cited for a failure to yield right of way at a stop intersection for the first accident, the release said. Blaum was transported to Kishwaukee Hospital by the Genoa Fire Department
Dumdie said the accidents are still under investigation and no other tickets have been given out.
