Students are reacting to the death of NIU student Marcus Miller, who was fatally shot Nov. 28 on the south side of Chicago.

Miller was shot in an alley behind the 2600 block of West 71st Street, the Chicago Tribune reported.

“It’s just so unfortunate when a fellow student gets killed,” said junior journalism major Drew Veskauf.

Miller was a freshman and lived on the third floor of Grant North.

“He was always smiling,” said freshman communications major Aman Wilkes, who knew Miller.

Wilkes said Miller’s funeral was planned to take place on Saturday.

Grant North residents were shocked to hear that one of their own had been killed.

“I think it’s very sad…it could happen to anyone,” said Ricardo Hernandez, freshman biomedical engineering major and Grant North resident.

The investigation of Miller’s death is ongoing, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The Northern Star contacted the Chicago Police Department, but they were unable to provide any further information on the case at this time.
