Coffman named POTW

NIU defensive end Jake Coffman was named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. The senior ensured a Huskies’ win against Western Michigan on Saturday when he intercepted an Alex Carder pass on the Broncos final drive of the game. For the second straight week, a Huskie garnered the award; sophomore linebacker Tyrone Clark took home the award last week.

Cross Country places 12th

At the MAC Championships over the weekend, the NIU cross country team finished in 12th place. The Toledo Rockets took home the top prize; totaling 44 points. With a time of 22:23.6, sophomore Courtney Oldenburg finished first for the Huskies for the sixth consecutive competition. NCAA regionals are next up for NIU and will be held in Peoria on Nov. 13.

Men’s golf wraps up

Wrapping up its fall season last week, the NIU men’s golf team tied for 12th place at the St. Mary’s Invitational; finishing outside the top 10 for only the second time this fall. Highlights from the Huskies’ fall included eight top-20 individual finishers, 13 rounds under par and a season-best second place finish at the Bearcat Invitational. As a team, the Huskies finished with a 295.9 scoring average.
