Harnish earns record third POTW honor of year
For the eighth straight week, an NIU football player has been named MAC West Player of the Week.
This week, NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish received the MAC West Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season.
The redshirt junior took the award for his play against Toledo last Tuesday, racking up two touchdowns while passing for 162 yards and rushing for 149. Harnish is the first NIU quarterback in Huskie annals to earn the POTW distinction three times in one season.
Wicinski garners fifth MAC honor, gets 40 kills
After helping the NIU volleyball team finish its regular season strong, outside hitter Lauren Wicinski was named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in 2010. Prior to Wicinski, no NIU volleyball player had been named POTW more than twice in a season. The Huskies went 1-1 on the week, earning a first-round bye in the upcoming MAC tournament. Against Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan, Wicinski racked up 40 kills and six aces.
Cross Country gets 24th at NCAA Regionals
Concluding its 2010 season over the weekend, the NIU cross country team finished 24th at the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Peoria. Leading the way for the Huskies was sophomore Courtney Oldenburg, who finished 105th overall with a time of 22:17.20. As a team, NIU averaged a time of 23:21.35, to finish 24th among the 27 teams in attendance. Iowa State took home first place, with Oklahoma State and Minnesota finishing second and third, respectively.
