Campus crime blotter for 11/23/10

Thursday

  • At 10:07 a.m., a report was received on a theft of a piece of equipment at the Yordon Center. With no further information, this case is administratively closed.
  • At 2:06 p.m., an officer indoors at Lincoln Hall observed three individuals outside, one of who was smoking what looked like marijuana. When the officer went out and questioned them, all three admitted to smoking cannabis. They were referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct, one for possession and use of cannabis, the others for use of cannabis.
  • At 9:36 p.m., officers conducted an interview with a resident of Neptune East. Nicholas Kenner, 18, of Burnham, Ill., voluntarily revealed several small packages of suspected cannabis. Kenner was arrested for possession of cannabis 30 grams and under.
  • At 10:10 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Douglas Hall to investigate the odor of cannabis. The occupants of the room in question admitted to smoking marijuana and revealed a pipe-like smoking device and plant-like substance of suspected cannabis. They were referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for possession of cannabis 30 grams and under and possession of drug equipment.

Friday

  • At 2:44 a.m., a subject was found to unlawfully be in possession of alcohol. The subject was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
  • At 4:51 a.m., officers responded to Lincoln Hall for a report of a banned subject. Once on scene, officers located and identified the subject. Shinda Crowell, 18, of Berwyn, Ill., was placed under arrest and charged with criminal trespass to state supported property. Crowell was booked at the NIU Police Department and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
  • At 10:57 a.m., the theft of a computer device was reported to have occurred in the Physics Department in Faraday Hall. This case is open and pending further investigation.
  • At 5:58 p.m., a complainant reported someone had made several Internet purchases on her debit card without her consent. This case is open and pending further investigation.
  • At 7:39 p.m., it was determined by Convocation Center staff that a subject was in possession of a forged ticket to an event. Officers interviewed all involved parties. This case is open and pending further investigation.
  • At 11:59 p.m., a criminal sexual assault was reported. The assault reportedly occurred on Oct. 10 in Lincoln Hall. This case is open and pending further investigation.
