Letter to the editor: Vote against supporters of the DeKalb “mega dump”
October 28, 2010
I would like to encourage the NIU community to get out and vote on Nov. 2.
Among the many races to be decided are the members of your DeKalb County Board. The big issue this election cycle being discussed by voters appears to be the huge expansion of the DeKalb County Landfill, which was approved by the board against the wishes of most of the citizens of our county.
This expansion will cause property devaluation along with an intense smell that we will all have to endure on a daily basis. DeKalb County will soon be the epicenter of “stink” in the Midwest.
It’s important to remind everyone of those board members who are up for re-election who voted to sell us out.
The members who voted “Yes” do not deserve your vote: Michael Haines (D) from District 2; John T. Hulseberg (D) from District 4; Steve Walt (R) from District 6; Sally DeFauw (D) from District 7; Julia Fauci (D) from District 9; Marlene D. Allen (R) from District 12.
Haines is being challenged by Russell Reverell (R); Walt is being challenged by Bob Brown (D); and Fauci is being challenged by Samuel-Louis Bandy Jr. (R).
The board members up for re-election who voted “No”: John Gudmunson (R) from District 1; Kenneth Anderson (R) from District 3; Derek A. Tyson (D) from District 5; and Eileen Dubin (D) from District 8.
District 10 will vote to fill the seat vacated by Pat LaVigne (R). Jeff Whelan (R) is on record opposing the landfill expansion. He gets my vote.
