DeKalb County Red Cross helps displaced residents
October 31, 2010
Students who were displaced from a building at 916 Greenbrier Road Wednesday night, after the roof was blown off in high winds, received help from the DeKalb County Red Cross and NIU.
“We provided comfort care kits [for building residents],” said Rona Hardt media relations and development coordinator for DeKalb County Red Cross.
Hardt said the comfort care kits included basic essentials like toothpaste and toothbrushes.
In addition to the kits, Hardt said the Red Cross has been doing follow-up calls with building residents to make sure they had a place to stay.
Brian Hemphill vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, said the university housed two NIU students after the roof of the building was blown off.
