NIU’s Faculty Senate discussed what method would be used in the search for a new dean for the graduate school Wednesday afternoon.

The decision was made to search for candidates internally rather than externally due to cost.

Faculty Senate President Alan Rosenbaum declined to comment.

Nominations were also held for Faculty Senate Vice President.

Economics associate professor George Slotsve was nominated by Rosenbaum for Vice President of Faculty Senate. The vote was unanimous in favor of Slotsve.

Director of Athletics Jeff Compher showed the members of the Faculty Senate that NIU’s student athlete’s have a higher graduation rate than most other NIU students.

“The athletic department only uses four percent of NIU’s intercollegiate income,” Compher said.

Compher also pointed out in his presentation that, apart from Ohio University, NIU included the opinions from various parties on matters such as funding and athletic divisions.

The next Faculty Senate meeting will be held on Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Sky Room.
