Locals have chance to play with women’s golf
On Oct. 3 at the Whisper Creek Golf Course the NIU women’s golf team will host the Northern Illinois Women’s Golf Co-Am. Each group of golfers will be paired with a current member of the Huskies. Participants will receive a round of golf, tee prizes and hors d’oeuvres for the price of $120.
Kiel named to Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
Junior offensive lineman Adam Kiel from the NIU football team was recently named to the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Selected for their outstanding commitment to service and volunteer work, the team is made up of 22 college football players from around the country. Kiel is the first NIU player to be honored since former receiver Matt Simon was named to the 2008 squad.
Wilber earns MAC West Special teams honor
Against Illinois on Saturday NIU punter Josh Wilber averaged 49.0 yards on five punts, three times pinning the Illini inside their own 12-yard line. The performance was good enough to garner the senior MAC West Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Wilber is currently fourth in the conference in punting average with 41.3 yards per punt.
Wicinski picks up second MAC West award of year
NIU volleyball’s Lauren Wicinski had been named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in four weeks. With the award, Wicinski became the first freshman in program history to be named offensive player of the week twice in one season. Over the week, Wicinski notched a team high 42 kills, while helping the Huskies to a 2-1 record.
