Letter to the Editor: Students have other alternatives for mailing needs

By Letter Writer

In response to the article “Student mailing needs not met,” which appeared in Thursday’s edition, Postmaster Cindy Schwartz failed to mention some alternatives for students’ mailing needs. The post office offers “Stamps by Mail,” in which an order form for stamps is sent to you and stamps are delivered with mail usually on the next business day. These forms are available from your letter carrier or can be delivered with your mail. “Click and Ship” can be used for online mailing needs as well as flat rate priority boxes at www.usps.com. These parcels can be picked up at your home or apartment with an online request as long as you are home or have somewhere secure to leave your shipment. At this time, I urge students to have their names on apartment boxes and to use apartment numbers when ordering items online. Also, let your carrier know if you want parcels left and where a secure place is to leave them we will also re-deliver them if need be. Outgoing mail can be left in your delivery box, but leave a note to indicate such so he can pick it up for delivery. I have been a letter carrier in DeKalb for over 20 years, and NIU students do matter very much to us. I hope this information is helpful.
