After being held at Kishwaukee Community Hospital due to dehydration Sunday morning, NIU head football coach Jerry Kill was transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

NIU Associate Athletics Director Donna Turner said that Kill is “consulting with his personal physician and undergoing further evaluation.”

Turner also said that no decision has been made if Kill will travel with the Huskies this Saturday when the huskies play Illinois.

A spokeswoman for Northwestern said that Kill was in “fair condition.”

“Obviously we’re concerned about Coach Kill and I’ve been in contact with his wife on several occasions throughout the last 48 hours,” NIU Athletic Director Jeff Compher said. “We’re just hoping he’ll be back with us as soon as he can. I feel very encouraged that will happen. I can’t give you a time-frame but I know Coach Kill and I know his personality and I know he wants to get back here as soon as possible.”

In the event that Kill won’t be available to make the trip Saturday to U of I, Compher has confidence that the rest of the coaching staff can formulate a way to bring the Huskies to victory.

“They know what their jobs are they’re very advanced with working with the team,” Compher said. “So they will be prepared and continue to prepare this week for our game this weekend.”

NIU offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover and defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys have been on Kill’s coaching staff for 10 and 14 years, including stops at Southern Illinois and Emporia State.
