SUNDAY
At approximately 10:08 p.m., a laptop was reported stolen from a room in Neptune West. Case is pending investigation.
MONDAY
At 1:51 a.m., University Police were dispatched to Stevenson South for a report of domestic battery. A boyfriend and girlfriend became embroiled in an argument that ended in a physical altercation when the female tried to drag the male out of her room. Case is pending investigation.
At 9:37 p.m., University Police were dispatched to Lot P for a report of criminal damage to property. The owner of the vehicle parked in the lot said someone partially tore a decal off the rear window. No other damage was found. Due to no more information, case is administratively closed.
TUESDAY
At 1:49 a.m., officers on patrol heard a report of two individuals smoking marijuana and heading toward Neptune West. Upon questioning, one denied smoking while the other produced a blunt. DeKalb City Police were also on scene, but let the NIU police handle the occurrence. The individual with the blunt was referred to Judicial Affairs for possession of cannabis 30 grams and under.
At 3:33 p.m., officers received a report of a subject at the Campus Recreation Center whose keys had been stolen. A search of the area did not produce the keys. Due to no leads and no suspects, case is administratively closed.
At 3:45 p.m., officers responded to a call from Neptune North by a resident who reported that she became involved in an argument with her boyfriend, which escalated when he threw Sour Patch Kids candy at her. The argument became physical when he allegedly pushed and punched her. He then allegedly caused damage to her door. When she tried to call 911, he grabbed her phone. The offender fled, but was found by officers on Varsity Boulevard. Suspect was charged with domestic battery and unlawful interference with the reporting of domestic violence.
At 10:58 p.m., an officer conducting a foot patrol of Central Park smelled the odor of cannabis in the air. As the officer approached a group of people, he observed one person attempt to light a cigarette-like object. Upon questioning and observation, the officer noticed the object smelled of burnt cannabis. She then admitted to smoking marijuana and received a referral to Judicial Affairs for possession of cannabis 30 grams and under.
