Passion Pit, best known for their hit single, “Sleepyhead”, are making their way to NIU’s Convocation Center Oct. 21.

Passion Pit has opened up for bands like Death Cab for Cutie and have had their work featured in a commercial for Sprint’s Palm Pixi mobile phone.

Passion Pit has been around long enough to craft two full-length albums. From frontman Michael Angelakos’ dorm room came what has been considered one of the leading acts of the “synthpop” movement’s second wave. According to the Convocation Center’s press release, the band has toured the country and the world, selling out shows in New York and Chicago and playing festivals such as Bonaroo, Lollapalooza and Cochella,

“Passion Pit has played Chicago within the past year, and [is] becoming more and more popular as the days go by,” said Heather Priest, marketing manager for the Convocation Center. “When contacted by a promoter to do the show at the Convo, we did some research and decided that the show would not only appeal to the students but also enhance the entertainment schedule on campus.”

While Passion Pit may still be unknown to some, the near 16 million plays they have on their MySpace page simply has to translate into the fact that people are falling in love with what they are doing.

“We are looking forward to bringing a show of this callibar and genre to the Convo,” Priest said.
