Huskie Briefs: NIU football, Wicinski, baseball and basketball tryouts

NIU football schedules Wake Forest, Ohio State:
The NIU football team recently announced that they’ve set up a couple of attractive dates. The Huskies will play Wake Forest in 2014, completing a three game agreement with the school. NIU played the Demon Deacons in 2001 and 2002, going 1-1 over the two games. The Huskies also confirmed a game against Ohio State, to be played in 2015.
NIU baseball and basketball to hold open tryouts Sept. 7:
Both the NIU baseball and basketball teams will be holding open tryouts for their upcoming seasons. Both tryouts will be taking place on Wednesday, Sept. 8. Baseball’s tryout will be held at 2:15 p.m. on Ralph McKinzie Field. In order to participate, registration forms must be turned in to the baseball office no later than 2 p.m., Sept. 7. Basketball tryouts wil be held at the Convocation Center at 6:15 PM. Those interested in the basketball tryout should contact Director of Basketball Operations Kent Dernbach.
Wicinski nabs MAC West Player of the Week honors:
NIU volleyball’s Lauren Wicinski was named the MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week. The freshman was a big part of the Huskies going 4-0 over the weekend at the NIU Invitational, compiling 86.5 points, 63 kills, and 18 aces. Wicinski is the first former high school All-American in the history of the NIU volleyball program.
