University Police to simulate a gunman in Gilbert Hall as part of training exercise

The University Police will participate in a training exercise to “simulate a situation involving an armed gunman” from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Gilbert Hall Thursday, June 11, according to an NIU Official Message sent out to students Wednesday.

Twenty-seven uniformed officers and five individuals in civilian clothes will be involved with the simulation that will also include simulated weapons and ammunition, the message said.

The exercise will be conducted by the University of Louisville Crime Prevention Institute as part of ongoing training to increase safety on campus, the message said.
