NIU police received word from local authorities about a possible abduction near campus, according to an NIU campus safety alert.

A second report about a possible attempted abduction near the NIU campus was included in the information the University Police received from the DeKalb Police Department.

Both alleged incidents involve multiple male suspects in a dark-colored van, the statement said. The victims were also male and the incidents were said to have occurred near campus but on city property.

NIU is urging all members of the NIU community to “exercise caution when traveling on and around campus,” the alert said.
