Scott Owen became the second two-time Division I All-American after placing fifth at the NCAA Championships in both 2002 and 2003. Owen also claimed MAC Championships three times from 2001-03 at 157 pounds.

With his achievements on the mat, Owen has been named First-Team National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic 2002 and 2003 along with an Honorable Mention in 1999. In 2002, he was named to the Second-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American team and is a four-time member of the NIU Academic Excellence Victory Scholars.
