Carl Appell was a charter member of the NIU Hall of Fame that won over 100 trophies and 36 team titles in men’s track and field.

Appell was inducted into both the NAIA/Helms Athletic Foundation and ITCCCA Halls of Fame.

He coached NIU track for 32 years and served as interim AD in 1935.
