Feb. 25
At 3:31 p.m., University Police responded to a report of an individual smoking cannabis outside Grant South. The officer confronted the individual, who admitted to smoking cannabis and turned over the small amount he had left. The individual was referred to Judicial Affairs.
Feb. 26
At 9:47 p.m., University Police investigated a verbal dispute at Lincoln Hall. An argument between an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend escalated when the girlfriend hit her ex. No complaint was filed. The ex-girlfriend was referred to Judicial Affairs for battery.
Feb. 27
At 1:38 a.m., University Police running radar on Annie Glidden Road saw a vehicle drive 41 mph in a 30-mph zone. Once stopped, the officer noticed alcohol coming from the driver, who failed field sobriety tests. The driver gave a fake name, as investigation found that he had three warrants out for his arrest. Officers arrested David J. Mercado, 19, of Oswego, for driving under the influence and obstruction of justice. Officers booked Mercado at the NIU Police Department, where he was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
At 3:04 a.m., University Police processing an individual, who was charged with disorderly conduct, smelled alcohol coming from the individual. The individual admitted to drinking and was referred to Judicial Affairs for underage drinking.
At 12:35 p.m., a victim reported that someone took her purse containing money, keys and her ID from DuSable Hall. At 5:30 p.m., someone returned all of the property to the NIU Police Station minus the cash. Case is closed.
