ABC’s ‘Castle’ better than the average major network crime drama
March 24, 2009
On television these days, there is a surplus of crime shows on the major networks, and ABC is adding a new show to the list with “Castle.”
So far, there have been three episodes to this series’ name and have thus far included the same intensity as other crime shows.
“Castle” centers around a detective named Kate Beckett (Stana Katic of “Quantum of Solace”) who has control and behavior issues. Bestselling author Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion of “Firefly”) is determined to use Beckett as an inspiration for his next mystery novel, so he follows her on cases, much to Beckett’s multiple objections.
The pilot episode featured a series of murders that mirrored those in Castle’s books. All throughout the cases, Castle proves that he has more than a talent for writing to his name. He’s well-versed in the theories of psychology that the police in the show also reference.
The complexity of all cases featured is enough to intrigue even a “Law & Order” lover. Even with all the complicated turns of events, the cases are fully understandable and intriguing.
Besides just being an author who follows around a detective, Castle also focuses his attention on his own family. His free-spirited mother and do-good daughter provide the encouragement that the writer, who is currently suffering from writer’s block, needs.
Castle and Beckett’s relationship is also highly amusing. Castle learns that Beckett had been betrayed in the past but never learns the full story. Beckett refuses to believe that the fun-loving Castle is worthy of her time, much less, a relationship. Fortunately, the chemistry between the two is what solves the murders.
As with any crime series, the suspect and victim are not necessarily who they appear to be at first. With three episodes under its belt, “Castle” certainly appears to be worth watching.
Tune in to ABC Mondays at 9 p.m. to watch this electrifying series.
