A DeKalb man was arrested the night of March 6 after reportedly robbing a convenience store, police said.

Dewayne A. Jones, 41, was arrested after running from DeKalb Police in the 800 block of Ridge Drive when he was found matching the description of a man who had robbed Casey’s General Store, 1001 N. Annie Glidden Road, according to a DeKalb Police Department news release.

At about 8:42 p.m., Jones allegedly entered the store and demanded money from the clerk while making motions with his hand in his pocket like he had a gun, said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler. The clerk refused, at which point Jones jumped over the counter and took several packs of cigarettes before fleeing the area on foot, Spangler said. The clerk was not injured in the robbery.

A few minutes after the robbery, police found Jones walking in the 900 block of Ridge Drive where he fled on foot as police tried to stop him, according to the news release. Jones was seen throwing packs of cigarettes away from him while running from police, Spangler said.

Jones was eventually stopped in the 800 block of Ridge Drive where officers determined the packs of cigarettes were from the robbery. No weapon was found on Jones, but a “drug pipe” was found during the arrest, Spangler said.

Jones was charged with aggravated robbery, resisting a peace officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later taken to DeKalb County Jail.
