Feb. 1
At 9:21 a.m., a victim reported that someone took his briefcase when he left it on a chair unattended at Barsema Hall. An investigation did not produce any new leads. Case is closed.
March 2
At 8:21 p.m., a battery was reported at Grant North. Case is closed on a refusal to cooperate.
March 17
At 1:44 p.m., a victim reported being harassed by telephone at Lincoln Hall. Case is pending.
March 18
At 12:58 a.m., University Police observed four individuals walking across Lot W, one with an open container of beer. Investigation revealed more alcohol in a backpack carried by one of the individuals. The individuals were given a verbal warning.
At 1:48 a.m., University Police pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of Normal Road and Hillcrest Road for a failure to signal and erratic driving. The driver swerved to avoid parked cars. While questioning the driver, the officer noticed behavior indicative of alcohol intoxication. After consenting to and failing field sobriety tests, the officer arrested Brett M. Ballard, 20, of Naperville. The officer booked Ballard at the NIU Police Department where he posted bond and was released.
At 1:15 p.m., a report was received on fraudulent use of a debit card at the Holmes Student Center. With no further information, case is closed.
At 4:51 p.m., a victim reported someone took her backpack after it was left unattended briefly at Founders Memorial Library. Case is pending.
At 10:57 p.m., a victim reported being harassed by telephone at Lincoln Hall. After investigating, University Police arrested William A. Rhodes, 19, of Downer’s Grove for harassment by telephone. Officers booked Rhodes at the NIU police Department where he was transported to DeKalb County Jail.
