Sycamore Fire reports no injuries in duplex fire

No one was injured in a structure fire that caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to a duplex in Sycamore Tuesday.

At about 12:10 p.m., the Sycamore Fire Department was called to 1525 Oak Lane for a fire that started in a child’s bedroom of a two-unit duplex.

Two people, an adult and a child, were home at the time of the fire and exited before the fire department arrived, said Sycamore Fire Lt. Sean Penn.

The fire, which was put out within about 10 minutes of arrival, damaged the child’s bedroom with some smoke damage reported to the connecting hallway, according to a Sycamore Fire Department news release. The two occupants were treated for smoke inhalation and released on the scene.

Sycamore fire investigators believe the fire was accidental but did not determine the cause as of press time, Penn said.
