March 21

At 1:20 a.m., University Police responded to a report of an intoxicated individual lying face down between two cars in Lot W. After checking on his well-being, officers took him to his room in Grant South where a floormate agreed to watch over him for the remainder of the night. The individual was referred to Judicial Affairs.

At 1:45 a.m., a victim reported his wallet was stolen during a fraternity party as he checked in with security at Grant North. Case is pending.

At 6:16 a.m., University Police were called to check on the well-being of an intoxicated individual at Grant South. She was found asleep with a friend who watched over her the remainder of the night. After explaining the dangers of excessive drinking, the officer referred the individual to Judicial Affairs for illegal consumption of alcohol.

At 8:44 p.m., University Police responded to a report of a possible domestic battery at Lincoln Hall. Upon arrival, the officers observed some signs of facial injuries, scratches and bruises on the female’s face. The offender had left the scene. Case is closed due to refusal to cooperate.

March 22

At 1:53 a.m., University Police on patrol in Douglas Hall smelled burnt cannabis coming from one of the rooms. After locating the room, the officer knocked and was allowed entry. When questioned, the resident admitted to recently smoking cannabis. The resident turned over some drug pipes and was referred to Judicial Affairs.

At 2:30 a.m., University Police stopped a pedestrian walking near Gilbert Hall drinking what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage. The pedestrian, who was a student, admitted it was alcohol. The officer gave a verbal warning for illegal alcohol consumption.

At 2:56 a.m., University Police observed a vehicle near the nursing school driving erratically with improper lane usage. After turning on his siren, the officer saw the driver pull over and exit the car running. The officer chased down the driver but required another officer to arrest Matthew Schiffler, 22, of LaGrange Park. Schiffler is charged with resisting arrest, driving under the influence and improper lane usage. Officers booked Schiffler at the NIU Police Department where he was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

At 12:41 p.m., a female individual who was previously banned from all NIU residence halls was found at Douglas Hall. University Police arrested Kendra T. Graham, 18, of Chicago for criminal trespassing on state property. Officers booked Graham at the NIU Police Department where she posted bond and was released.

At 10:31 p.m., University Police on patrol in Grant South smelled burnt cannabis coming from one of the rooms. After locating the room, the officer knocked and was allowed entry. When questioned, the resident admitted to smoking cannabis and consented to a search of the room. Various drug equipment was found. The resident was referred to Judicial Affairs.
