University Police Blotter: Tuesday, March 3

Feb. 28

• At 12:34 a.m., University Police on patrol in Douglas Hall saw an open can of Busch beer in a room as they walked past the open door. After being invited into the room, the officers also saw a case of Busch beer in an open backpack. The individuals involved were referred to Judicial Affairs.

• At 12:51 a.m., University Police on patrol in Lincoln Hall saw a student run into the lobby after seeing the officer. The student, who admitted to drinking, led the officer to his room where other underage students were drinking. By the time the officer arrived, four students had consumed 24 cans of beer and a bottle of Jack Daniels. All four students were referred to Judicial Affairs.

• At 12:55 a.m., University Police on patrol in Douglas Hall smelled cannabis coming from one of the rooms. When officers knocked, the student opened the door and quickly closed it. After a while, the student opened the door and invited the officers into the room. He denied smoking or possessing cannabis. However, he showed officers a cannabis bowl he made out of an empty prescription bottle, plastic tubing and gray duck tape. The student was referred to Judicial Affairs for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

• At 3:43 a.m., University Police on patrol in Neptune North smelled alcohol coming from a room. After interacting with the eight individuals in the room, all eight were referred to Judicial Affairs for underage drinking.

• At 7:05 p.m., a criminal sexual assault that occurred on Thursday, Feb. 26 was reported in Neptune North. Case is pending.

• At 10:43 p.m., University Police on patrol in Lincoln Hall heard coins along with other noises coming from a room. Inside, the officers found 10 individuals playing a game of coins with cups of Monster Energy Drink. The resident of the room had also removed a bottle of Smirnoff vodka from his refrigerator. The resident was referred to Judicial Affairs.

March 1

• At 2:07 a.m., an individual was reported intoxicated on a couch in Douglas Hall lobby. After checking on her well-being, the individual was referred to Judicial Affairs for underage drinking.

• At 2:39 a.m., University Police pulled over a vehicle that made a lane change without signaling and then made an abrupt stop.

The officers smelled alcohol coming from the driver, at which point field sobriety tests were conducted.

The driver failed the tests, and officers arrested Delawrence J. Ison, 24, of Chicago, for driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers booked Ison at the NIU Police Department where he posted bond and was later released.
