NIU Meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste said DeKalb is under a blizzard warning until noon Tuesday.

DeKalb can expect two to three inches of snow this afternoon and tonight, and from midnight to noon Tuesday, 30-35 mph winds will blow through.

“There will be much blowing snow and low windchills, 20-25 below zero,” Sebenste said.

He added that more snow and cold temperatures are likely on the way.

“There may be an even stronger blizzard Wednesday to Thursday night,” Sebenste said, adding that he wasn’t sure yet of the amount of snow that could come, though there is “the potential for a lot more snow.”

By Friday morning, Sebenste said, the thermometer could read 15 below zero, with windchills making it feel like 30 below.

The average winter in DeKalb brings 32 inches, Sebenste said. As of today, DeKalb received 37.3 inches so far this winter.
