January 13, 2009
NIU Meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste said DeKalb is under a blizzard warning until noon today.
DeKalb can expect 2 to 3 inches of snow this afternoon and tonight, with 30 to 35 mph winds blowing through from midnight to noon today.
Sebenste said there will be blowing snow and low wind chills with temperatures between 20 to 25 degrees below zero.
He added that more snow and cold temperatures are likely on the way.
“There may be an even stronger blizzard Wednesday to Thursday night,” Sebenste said. He also said he was not sure yet of the amount of snow that could come, though there is “the potential for a lot more snow.”
According to Sebenste, by Friday morning the thermometer could read 15 degrees below zero, with wind chills making it feel like 30 degrees below.
The average winter in DeKalb brings 32 inches, Sebenste said. As of Monday, DeKalb received 37.3 inches so far this winter.
