Duffy

Duffy, the soulful retro singer from Wales, proved that it is possible to make UK retro pop big without going to rehab (ahem, Ms. Winehouse). This small girl with a big voice belted out catchy tunes like “Mercy” and “Warwick Avenue” to prove that she can make it big in the states.

We The Kings

Most were probably sucked into the catchy hooks of their hit single “Check Yes Juliet,” but the band’s entire album is upbeat and enjoyable. With great dancing, I keep this album on rotation regularly.

Jack’s Mannequin

There were not too many albums that seemed to defy previous standards, but a few did stand out, including “The Glass Passenger.” Not many artists can combine heartfelt sincerity with melodic tunes and not have the songs sound corny. Jack’s Mannequin’s sophomore album does just that and leaves listeners wanting more.

Story Of The Year

“The Black Swan” is an excellent mainstream rock album that the mainstream completely ignored. The 12 musical tracks are musically mature and demonstrate composition mastery and innovation.
