Need a Schwetty Ball fix?
At 7:30 p.m. today in the New Orleans Room at Stevenson Hall, the Northern Illinois Players (NIP) will perform “Northern Illinois Live,” their take on the sketch-comedy show “Saturday Night Live.”
NIP member and director Amanda Antonini, freshman nursing major, said the hour-and-a-half-long show will include five original “SNL” sketches, a NIU version of Weekend Update and an improv set similar to “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
Sketches will include MySpace Seminar, Bronx Beat, the infamous Schwetty Balls and more.
To keep the show as close to “SNL” as possible, Antonini said there will also be an emcee and a band.
Though the event is free, Antonini said it is a fundraiser that will sell concessions and have a $5 recommended donation.
NIP is raising money for their original production of “The Chronicles of Nidrack” for the spring.
Antonini said she wants the NIU population to know more about the NIP, which gives non-theater majors a venue to perform in public. She also wants the audience to enjoy a fun-filled night.
“As long as I hear laughter and people leave with a smile on their face, it will be a success,” she said.
