Flavors of the Week: Faculty Senate, ‘meh,’ Thanksgiving

By NYSSA BULKES

Ahh, Turkey Day. As Thanksgiving approaches, some of you might feel the creeping tickle of anxiety grow in the pit of your stomach. It’s OK, certainly many of the NIU campus members feel the same way.

Here are a few laughs to ease your mood.

1 of 5 stars – Faculty Senate … again.

Students won’t actually receive “Fs” if “instructors fail to submit their grades by the assigned deadline.” Gee Faculty Senate, thanks for raising our blood pressure. I know I really enjoyed that little palpitation I got from the first article. Hey guys? Next time, if you don’t know where information came from, wait it out until you completely grasp what it is you’re saying. A little fact checking never hurt anybody.

2 of 5 stars – Hah! “Meh” is in the dictionary.

The word “meh” is now in the HarperCollins dictionary. If anything, the integration shows how much dictionaries aren’t set in stone and that we, as users of the English language, can change it collectively if the use is there. But “meh?” Have we put in “um” yet or, perhaps, “y’know”? This is getting into the tiny, picky words no one actually thinks they use. A little strange, methinks.

5 of 5 stars – Turkey Day!

Despite the anxiety still brewing in your stomach, there’s nothing like knowing that just in a few days, you’ll be sitting down and stuffing your face with a plateful of good food. Forget the family quarrels (if possible) and enjoy the day. As students who scrounge up what spare change they can for a decent meal, have fun stocking up. Most importantly, don’t forget to be thankful.
