Beer of the Week: Leinenkugel’s Fireside Nut Brown

By DAN STONE

The Beer: Leinenkugel’s Fireside Nut Brown is an English style lager with a chocolate and nut taste. It has a thick, dark-mouth feel, medium carbonation and a great aftertaste that features hints of chocolate and hazelnut. It’s very reminiscent of Frederick Miller Chocolate Lager.

The Good: Fireside Nut Brown is like night and day when compared to Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy. Fireside Nut Brown is full of character and taste. It’s the perfect beer for beating the winter weather by lounging around your home.

The Bad: Those who view putting chocolate taste in a beer as a cardinal sin will loathe Fireside Nut Brown.

The Cost: $6.99 for a six-pack

The Recommendation: Fireside Nut Brown is not a “party beer,” and is best suited for a more relaxed setting due to its thickness. It’s also a good beer to have after a meal.

The Bottom Line: Though not for everyone, Fireside Nut Brown is an excellent holiday brew.
