Voting info: When and where

By DAVID THOMAS

With early voting ending Thursday, there’s only one option for those who have not obtained absentee ballots: actually voting on Election Day, Nov. 4.

A registered voter, however, can’t just vote anywhere. Voters can only cast their ballots in the county they are registered. In a previous interview with the Northern Star, DeKalb County Clerk Sharon Holmes said this is the biggest confusion among students.

“I can’t help somebody vote here if they are not registered here in DeKalb County,” Holmes said.

Voters should check their election card to see where their polling place is. Different addresses have different polling places.

For example, a student who registered with an address at Douglas Hall would vote at the Recreation Center.

In most counties, the county clerk is the head election official. The only exception is DuPage County, which has an election commission in addition to a county clerk. Listed here are links to find the polling places in a particular county and the election home pages of the county clerk. The office numbers of the clerks are listed as well.

On Election Day, Illinois polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. All county clerk offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
