Yell-Like-Hell kicks off Tuesday night

Yell-Like-Hell, a dance competition that requires groups to prepare cheerleading routines accompanied by music of their choice, will take place at the Convocation Center at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

“Each group may have a total of 20 team members on the floor at any one point. Teams can be single gendered or co-ed and are judged based on their cheering, movement fundamentals, synchronization, difficulty level, the amount of Huskie spirit they show and showmanship,” said Anthony Perez, CAB graduate assistant.

Dance routines require no certain style but will be judged by the stressed criterion.

Five judges will be at the event including President John Peters; Brian Hemphill, vice-president of Student Affairs; Lauren Mock, vice-president of Student Association; Monica Trevino, associate director of student involvement & leadership development, and Brittany London, NIU cheerleading team captain.

First, second and third place winners will receive trophies reflecting their routine and whether or not they are the team that accumulated the highest point total based off of the five judges scoring of each team.

Perez said that besides other kick-off activities, this is a great event that will generate a lot of school spirit and excitement.
