Tailgaiting season commences

Saturday was the first home football game and the first opportunity to tailgate.

As such, the University Police was out in force.

From 11 a.m. to 1:34 p.m., UP officers caught 10 minors drinking alcohol at Huskie Stadium.

According to Lt. Todd Henert, officers are trained to see if a particular person looks underage and to monitor behavior with an officer present.

Henert said those who are 21 or older and drinking are more comfortable in the presence of officers than their underage counterparts.

“Folks that are underage have some body language cues,” Henert said.

All offenders were referred to Judicial Affairs. Punishment can vary greatly depending on the situation.
