Recreation Services added some new features and remodeled the cardio/strength training room over this summer.

For the Recreation Center, this summer brought a new floor and weight plates were installed, and in May, new machines were added.

Sandi Carlisle, director of Recreation Services said the new equipment added includes treadmills, ellipticals and free weight plates.

In addition, Carlisle said the new types of machines installed include Expresso and Adaptive Motion Trainers (AMT). The Expresso bike is an interactive bike that allows users to race another person on a real course. Carlisle said the AMT has a variety of workouts built in as a stepper, a strider or an elliptical.

“The AMT gives versatility of use and allows the patron to choose his or her type of workout,” Carlisle said.

The Rec Center also replaced the carpet floor with Mondo, a synthetic floor, this summer. These types of floors are used in cardio and weight rooms across the country, she said.

The money for the remodeled Rec was funded through the university’s capital improvement process.

Students who use the new Recreation Services find the improvements to be a success.

Keith Tasca, a junior history major, said the new equipment is a nice addition and still serves its ultimate purpose.

“The new Rec works fine,” he said. “I got a really good workout on the treadmills.”

Annie Chen, sophomore English major, said the Rec Center looks better than before.

“It just looks more open, it has more space and is brighter,” she said.

Carlisle said the Rec Center hopes to do more remodeling in the future.

“Our goal is to provide an aesthetically pleasing, safe and comfortable environment conducive for recreation,” she said. “This includes providing appropriate equipment that meets patrons’ recreational needs.”
