EMPIRE to hold casting calls

Look out Tyra, there’s a new modeling organization that doesn’t require comments from Janice Dickinson or Nigel Barker.

EMPIRE is an acronym for “Every Model’s Presence Indicates Rare Entity.” This acronym illustrates variety among models and helps the group promote diversity and individuality.

President Cristine Acierto came up with the idea by observing morals and fundamentals of other college social groups.

“Usually clubs or organizations will focus on a certain race or ethnic group and I just want this to be as cultured as possible,” Acierto said.

She hopes to combine sororities and fraternities by selecting representatives to demonstrate their talents in a runway show. Acierto said with the help of her friends and unofficial staff members, the organization hopes to have the first fashion show Nov. 21. The group has drawn interest in returning and new students Acierto said.

“I think it’s cool to have something that promotes variety and welcomes both genders. It really unifies people and doesn’t leave a certain type of person out,” said freshman undecided major Samantha Montgomery.

Acierto is looking to fill multiple positions including fashion designers, stylists, make-up artists, production staff, secretaries and treasurers. Those of all races and body types are encouraged to attend casting calls Acierto said. Proceeds will go toward advertisements and funding as far as booking space for events.

“Basically the fashion shows raise money to pay for the room that we use,” Acierto said. “We are a non-profit organization and the goal right now is to get funded so that we can get talent exposed.”

Casting calls will be held Wednesday at DuSable Hall, Room 148 from 9-11 p.m., and Thursday at Stevenson Towers in the multi-purpose room from 8-11 p.m. Those who attend are recommended to bring a photo of themselves and wear minimal jewelry and make-up.
