‘ER’ contacts series veterans for comebacks in final season

In hopes of a proper sendoff for the fifteenth and final season, “ER” producers hope to get the shows biggest stars of the past to join them for final episodes.

George Clooney gained fame by playing the part of Dr. Douglas “Doug” Ross on the long running medical hit “ER” for over four years during the mid to late 90s. Alongside Clooney, Julianna Margulies starred as nurse Carol Hathaway. Both are being considered for a return, but have yet to agree to anything. Producers would like to fill in the stories of the veteran stars, explaining where they have been and what they have accomplished since they left.

Actor Noah Wyle was the first of the “ER” vets to agree to a small stint on the final season, coming aboard for four episodes. Goran Visnjic has also been approached to reprise his role as the ever-popular Dr. Kovac who married Maura Tierney’s character Abby Lockhart.

The greatest challenge will be bringing back Anthony Edwards (Dr. Green) who was last seen on the show dying of cancer in Hawaii, but it seems as though producers are willing to take that challenge, perhaps in a flashback sequence.

“ER” premiered last week and can be seen every Thursday night at 9 P.M. on NBC.
