Wrong numbers go unnoticed in NIU student planner

By DAVID THOMAS

Need to find the number to Founders Memorial Library or the non-emergency number of the University Police? Don’t use your planner.

The 2008-2009 Plan-It DeKalb Daily Planner, which was given out for free by the University Bookstore, lists the incorrect numbers for several NIU services. They are the numbers for the same services at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

The planner is published by Student Media Group, a company that creates the planners for local businesses to advertise within. Paul Alford, president of SMG, said he was unaware of the mistake until he was informed by the Northern Star. He said he greatly apologizes for the mistake.

“This is not the outcome we want either,” Alford said, adding that the company will change how it does proofing for next year. “I am accepting 100 percent of the responsibility as president of the company.”

For next year, Alford will offer an initiative for NIU student groups to help the company.

“If any student-run group is willing to help us overlook this section, we’ll get them a free full-page ad in the front section [of the planner],” Alford said.

Student groups that are interested should contact Melissa Carnation at [email protected].
