Campus Child Care to celebrate 30th anniversary

The hands of professors and students have been freed with the help of an NIU program that brings relief to many NIU parents.

Campus Child Care is celebrating their 30th anniversary of service to parents by providing educational and interactive care for their children.

Chris Herrmann, director of the CCC says the university has shown its commitment to the importance of learning.

Funded by the Student Association, an allocation was presented to the CCC to transition their care center from Gabel hall into a new building eight years ago. According to a recent press release, the CCC now enrolls approximately 130 children each semester up to the age of 5. CCC offers 30 different rates for NIU students and faculty, determined by family size and income. Students however, are offered a 10 percent discount.

“We govern our education of children with a play based philosophy. Hands-on-learning is a great way for everyone to learn and maintain a love for learning. We use a developmental approach to help children solve their own problems. It pays when they get into grade school,” Herrmann said.

Herrmann, said she is thrilled to celebrate the 30th anniversary.

“The SA has been wonderful in helping fund a program that gives right back to the students. 30 years is a long time and we’d like to celebrate the history of the center. Our mission has always been to serve the students, they are the reason we are here everyday,” Herrmann said.

CCC encourages faculty and students to join them as they “celebrate 30 years of quality care. An Open House will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Campus Child Care Center. Come and tour the center, enjoy refreshments, check out photo displays of the CCC’s past and present, visit the book fair and win door prizes. Alumni of the program are welcomed to attend.”

CCC is also donating one book to each child from Scholastic Publications. The Children’s Book Fair will be held October 6-10, from 8:00-5:30 Monday-Thursday and 8:00-1:00 on Friday.
