University Police Blotter: Sept. 9

Sept. 2
• Criminal damage to property between 12:30 and 9:14 a.m. at Lot X. A car was scratched repeatedly with some object. Police identified a potential suspect who was familiar with the victim. The suspect agreed to pay the victim restitution for the damages.
Sept. 4
• Criminal defacement between 5 a.m. Sept. 4 and 4:45 a.m. Sept. 5 at Lot 41 near Faraday Hall. Graffiti was found on a Waste Management dumpster. Case is pending investigation.
• Theft $300 and under between 1 and 2 p.m. at Lincoln Hall. Student left their camera at a public place and discovered someone had walked away with it. Case is administratively closed.
Sept. 5
• Illegal consumption by a minor and possession of cannabis 30 grams and under at 1:30 a.m. at Grant South. Police went to investigate a report of a fight outside Grant Hall. Although there was no fight when they arrived, police still investigated. They identified a potential person involved in the incident. The person was underage and had alcohol on his breath. After arresting him and searching his person, police found a small amount of marijuana in his pocket. Matthew R. Burke, 18, of Naperville, was arrested and charged with illegal consumption and for possession of cannabis under 30 grams.
• All other cannabis control offenses at 8:23 p.m. at Central Park outside Douglas Hall. Police found three students smoking a blunt. All three students were referred to Judicial Affairs.
• Battery at 11:51 p.m. at the Recreation Center. Two students got into a fight at the dance that was held at the center. The instigating student was removed from the dance. Both students were referred to Judicial Affairs.
Sept. 6
• Criminal damage to property from 2:15 to 2:30 a.m. at Lot W near Grant North. Security guards patrolling the lot noticed the bumper from one car onto the blacktop. Case is pending investigation.
• Theft $300 and under from 3:45 to 11:22 p.m. at Martin Luther King Commons. Student left a bicycle outside at King Memorial Commons and went into the Holmes Student Center. The bike was not secured to a rack. When the student exited, the bike was gone. Case is pending investigation.
• Possession of cannabis 30 grams and under at 10:42 p.m. at Grant South. Police spotted a student smoking marijuana. Student was referred to Judicial Affairs.
